Ocean Network Express (ONE) supports charity WaterAid

ONE employees have been getting behind the charity WaterAid by taking part in their challenge “Walk for Water” by walking 155km in 20 days, covering 1705km in total as a team. The charity initiative raises awareness of the difficulties faced by many communities in trying to access clean water, it is astounding that almost 1 in 10 people worldwide do not have clean water close to their homes.

The job of collecting and finding water disproportionately affects girls and women as they are often sent by their families to bring back water, walking 5km or more every day.  This means girls miss school and women cannot take up opportunities for paid employment, significantly affecting their economic outcomes.

Through their solidarity for this worthwhile cause, ONE employees raised £180 with a further significant donation of £7500 from the company. Xavier Hussein from WaterAid thanked ONE saying “Your recent support is greatly appreciated, and it is only with the support of companies like ONE that we are able to reach the most marginalised communities with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.”
